Keep your emails and inbox organized with email filters. You can create up to 200 filters to tell incoming messages which folder to be delivered to, as well as tell unwanted emails to go directly to the Trash. Here are our instructions to help you create or remove filters in Yahoo Mail.

Add a filter

  1. Go to your Yahoo inbox.
  2. Hover mouse over the “gear icon” in the top right, choose Settings.

  3. Click on Filters.

  4. Click Add to add a new filter.

  5. Enter the filter criteria. Only the emails that meet ALL of the conditions are filtered and move to the folder of your choosing.

    1. Filter name.
    2. The criteria to base the filter on. Basically, you’re entering keywords for your filter, any mails that contain the filter’s keyword in any part of it (sender, receiver, subject, body) will be delivered to the folder you choose.
    3. The folder that the affected mails will arrive in.
  6. Select the folder to deliver the filtered emails to or select New Folder to create a new one. Then click Save and your filter is created. You can have up to 200 filters with Yahoo Mail.

Note: The order of your filter list matters. Filters are prioritized from the top down, if two filters can apply to the same email, the top filter will be used. You can change the order by using the up or down arrow on the right.

Remove a filter

  1. Go to your Yahoo Mail inbox.
  2. Hover mouse over the “gear icon” in the top right, choose Settings.
  3. Click on Filters.
  4. Choose the filter you want to remove.

  5. Select Remove.
  6. Click Save to save your changes and return to your email’s settings.

Besides the options to add or remove filters, you can also edit an existing filter: Choose a filter you want to edit, click Edit instead of Add, make your changes then click Save.
